Itoya Ginza: a floor-by-floor field guide

Itoya’s Ginza flagship is not one building with twelve generic stationery floors. It is two adjacent buildings — G.Itoya (the red-clip landmark on Chuo-dori) and K.Itoya behind it — with named floors that change by theme. Official hours and floor names below are taken from Itoya’s current Ginza store directory. Confirm the live page before a visit; seasonal events move.

How the two buildings split

• G.Itoya is the main visitor path: greeting cards and information on 1F, letter goods on 2F, fountain pens on 3F, planners on 4F, everyday writing tools and notebooks on 5F, then home goods, art supplies, and paper crafts higher up. The top floors are a hydroponic farm and cafe, not extra stationery.
• K.Itoya is the smaller annex: Itoya house brands on 1F, kids stationery and custom notebooks on 2F, printing and seals on 3F, framing in the basement.
• G.Itoya 9F is not listed on the current official floor guide. Do not plan a destination there.

If you only have an hour, stay in G.Itoya 2F–5F and add 3F only if you want fountain pens.

G.Itoya floor directory

B1 — Inspiration Hall

A multipurpose hall for exhibitions, talks, and events — not a shopping floor. Check the store page for the current show before going downstairs.

1F — GROUND

Information, greeting cards, an event space, and a drink counter. This is orientation, not the pen or paper destination. The Charlie Harper woodpecker clock is the official meeting landmark.

2F — SHARE

Greeting cards, letter paper, envelopes, postcards, stickers, ceremonial envelopes, and a Write & Post desk with a mailbox (in cooperation with Ginza-dori Post Office). Come here if the goal is correspondence, not fountain pens.

3F — WRITE

Fountain pens, luxury writing instruments, maki-e and limited pens, ink, leather desk mats, Montblanc, the My Mighty custom-color program, and Pen Care. Itoya states a stock of about 2,000 pens and a pen-care room for cleaning and nib work (fees vary; disassembly cleaning is listed from ¥1,500 plus tax). This is the floor that matches “Itoya pens,” not 1F.

4F — ORGANIZE

Planners, system binders and refills, planner accessories, leather goods, notebooks, loose leaf, and diaries. If the search intent is Hobonichi, Jibun Techo, or a refill system, start here rather than on a generic “planner section” somewhere upstairs.

5F — WORK

Everyday writing tools, pen cases, refills, notebooks, report pads, files, sticky notes, clips, scissors, task chairs, desk lights, and a Home Office area. This is the practical stationery floor for tools you will actually use at a desk.

6F — HOME

Kitchen, dining, living, washroom, photo frames, magnifiers/reading glasses, and book covers. Skip this floor if the trip is stationery-only.

7F — COLOR

Paints, pencils and colored pencils, pastels, calligraphy supplies, Western papers, design markers, sketchbooks, and boards. Itoya lists more than 1,000 paper types and about 1,300 pencils/colored pencils, with a try-before-you-buy corner for pencils. Paper shopping for fountain pens or art is here, not on 1F.

8F — CRAFT

Wrapping, washi, origami, cartonnage, stamps, design papers, scrapbooking, paid Wrapping Stylist service, and Papiearium workshops. Good if you want decorative paper or a class; skip if you only need notebooks and pens.

10F — HandShake Lounge

A reservation-only business lounge furnished with Vitra pieces. Not a public merchandise floor.

11F — FARM

An indoor hydroponic vegetable farm that supplies the restaurant above. Window viewing only; not a stationery stop.

12F — CAFE Stylo

All-day cafe and restaurant (sandwiches, salads, burgers, American food, wine). Official cafe hours on the store page: 11:30–21:00, last order 20:00; reservations 03-3567-1108.

K.Itoya floor directory

Walk behind G.Itoya for the annex. Do not treat these floors as extra copies of G.Itoya 3F–5F.

B1 — FRAME

Custom framing from a large sample wall (Itoya lists about 1,500 frame samples), plus prints and rotating artist shows.

1F — SIGNATURE

Itoya house brands ROMEO and COLOR CHART, plus KOLO bags and sunglasses. This is brand/product discovery, not the main fountain-pen wall.

2F — KIDS

Itoya Kids school and craft stationery, plus two custom services: Note Couture (cover + paper + size bound in store) and My Emblem (foil-stamped Gmund cards).

3F — BESPOKE

Printing (cards, invitations, wedding stationery), made-to-order and ready-made seals, and workshops. Come here for orders, not browsing pens.

What to skip on a short visit

• G.Itoya 6F HOME, 10F lounge, 11F farm unless you specifically want those spaces.
• G.Itoya 12F cafe if the goal is merchandise; it is a restaurant, not a hidden stationery floor.
• K.Itoya B1 framing and 3F printing unless you have an order.
• Assuming 1F is the pen floor. Officially, 1F is GROUND (cards and information); pens are 3F WRITE and everyday tools are 5F WORK.

A practical 60–90 minute plan

1. Enter G.Itoya 1F only long enough to get oriented.
2. 3F WRITE if fountain pens or ink are the reason for the trip.
3. 4F ORGANIZE for planners and leather goods.
4. 5F WORK for notebooks and desk tools.
5. 7F COLOR only if you need paper, pencils, or art supplies.
6. Cross to K.Itoya 2F only for Note Couture / kids goods, or 1F for ROMEO / COLOR CHART.

Tax-free and airport pricing change; treat any “buy it at Haneda instead” advice as a price check on the day, not a standing rule.

Floor names, merchandise lists, hours, and services in this article follow Itoya’s published Ginza directory. Event pop-ups on individual floors change and are omitted unless they are part of the standing floor brief.

Choosing Itoya against other Tokyo stops

Itoya Ginza is the concentration stop, not the only stationery store in Tokyo. If you still need to decide between Ginza, Shinjuku art supplies, Shibuya LOFT, and a short Tokyo Station stop, use the Tokyo stationery route hub.
