Tokyo has more stationery stops than a single day can use. This page is a decision hub, not another ranked list: pick the purpose, the area you will already be in, and the time you actually have. Floor-by-floor copy stays in the existing guides.
Facts that change — hours, tax-free handling, custom services, and what is on the shelf — are labeled with the official page to recheck. This guide does not claim a personal visit, a purchase, a photo, a price, or a walking time that an official page does not state. Store information below was checked on 2026-10-05.
Start with the job, not the ranking
| What you need | Use this stop | Why it is the first choice | Recheck before you go |
|---|---|---|---|
| Planners and notebooks | Itoya Ginza flagship, G.Itoya | The existing floor guide places planners and notebooks on named G.Itoya floors, so you can skip the rest of the building. | Itoya Ginza directory |
| Fountain pens and ink | Itoya Ginza, then a specialist only if you still need one | Ginza concentrates writing tools and custom-pen services without a second neighborhood. | Itoya store information and the ink guide |
| Broad trend goods | Shibuya LOFT, or Ginza LOFT if you are already in Ginza | LOFT is a household-goods store with a stationery floor, not a pen or paper specialist. | LOFT English shop list |
| Art supplies | Sekaido Shinjuku main store | Official store page describes a multi-floor art and stationery shop, separate from a Ginza gift walk. | Sekaido Shinjuku |
If two purposes conflict, keep the one that needs a specialist and treat the other as a backup. A planner can wait for Itoya. A custom notebook cannot be finished in a department-store stationery corner.
Three routes that do not duplicate each other
1. Ginza concentration — about half a day
Use this when you are already around Ginza, Ginza-itchome, or a Kyobashi hotel and want more than one kind of stationery without changing neighborhoods.
- Anchor: Itoya Ginza field guide. Official flagship page: 銀座 伊東屋 本店. Address on Itoya’s store information page: 2-7-15 Ginza, Chuo-ku. Access stated there: Tokyo Metro Ginza Station exit A13, about two minutes toward Kyobashi; Ginza-itchome Station exit 9, about one minute. Ginza Official lists hours as Monday–Saturday 10:00–20:00 and Sunday/holidays 10:00–19:00, and asks visitors to confirm with the store.
- If Itoya is not the whole job: Ginza stores besides Itoya for paper, traditional goods, and art materials in the same district. Ginza Official lists G.C.PRESS at 6-5-16 Ginza.
- Broad trend goods without leaving Ginza: Ginza LOFT, 3F–6F Ginzavelviakan, 2-4-6 Ginza, listed hours 11:00–21:00 on the LOFT shop list. That is a general-store floor, not a substitute for Itoya’s pen or planner floors.
Do not add Shibuya or Shinjuku to this route. The point of Ginza is staying in one district.
2. Shinjuku art and utility — about two hours
Use this when you are already at Shinjuku Station or Shinjuku-sanchome and the job is art supplies, frames, or a practical stationery restock.
- Specialist: Sekaido Shinjuku main store, 3-1-1 Shinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, floors 1–5. The same page says Shinjuku-sanchome Station (Marunouchi and Shinjuku lines) exit C4 is about one minute, and JR/Odakyu/Keio Shinjuku Station is about seven minutes. Listed hours as of 2026-10-05: 9:30–20:00, closed only around the New Year. Confirm the store page before travel.
- Utility stationery in the same station area: Itoya Shinjuku, 5F Keio Department Store, 1-1-4 Nishi-Shinjuku, on Itoya store information. Use it for notebooks, pens, and organizers, not as an art-supply replacement for Sekaido.
- Shibuya LOFT is not on this walk. The LOFT shop list places Shibuya LOFT at 21-1 Udagawacho, Shibuya-ku, with listed hours 10:00–21:00. Read the Shibuya LOFT stationery guide only if Shibuya is a separate stop.
3. Tokyo Station efficiency, or a Kuramae specialty appointment
These are two different trips. Do not treat them as one neighborhood route.
- Short time at Tokyo Station: use the existing stores near Tokyo Station guide. Maruzen Marunouchi sits in Marunouchi Oazo, 1-6-4 Marunouchi; check Oazo access and hours rather than a copied timetable.
- Custom notebook or mixed ink: Kakimori’s official store page places the shop in Kuramae, 1-6-2 Misuji, Taito-ku, 1F, open 11:00–18:00 and closed on Monday including holidays. Order cutoff and same-day name stamping rules are on that page. Source: Kakimori stores. Visit planning stays in the existing Kakimori Kuramae guide. The page does not give a station exit or walking time, so this guide does not invent one. It also does not place Kakimori in Nakameguro; that location is not the official shop address.
A Tokyo Station connection is a transfer, not a combined shopping walk.
How much time you have
- Under 45 minutes: one store only. Tokyo Station if you are changing trains; Ginza Itoya 2F–5F if you are already in Ginza; Sekaido only if art supplies are the whole job.
- About two hours: one route above, not two. Leave tax-free paperwork and custom orders out unless the official page says the service is available that day.
- Half a day: Ginza concentration, or Shinjuku plus nothing else. Kuramae is its own appointment because of the Monday closure and the 17:30 order cutoff on Kakimori’s page.
Tax-free eligibility, airport pricing, and stock are not stable enough to rank here. Recheck the store page on the day.
What this page will not decide for you
It does not name a single best store, estimate prices, or promise English-speaking staff. Those claims need a source this page does not have. Detailed buying context stays in the linked guides:
